Most companies keep the schematic in a locked drawer. The marketing site gets the hero shot and the soft words; the wiring diagram, if it exists at all, lives in a datasheet nobody outside engineering ever opens. We did the opposite. The teardown is the marketing site. The wire is the pitch.
Transparency as the aesthetic
When your whole promise is “it asks before it sends,” you can't ask people to take that on faith. A promise about trust that you can't inspect is just a nicer black box. So we made a decision early that shaped everything after it: transparency isn't a policy page, it's the look of the product. The site is built like a premium editorial poster crossed with an honest engineering teardown — because that's literally what boop is.
That means the exploded view of the device isn't hidden three clicks deep under “Technical.” It's on /inside, front and centre, and it comes apart as you scroll. Six layers, one at a time, each labelled: the silicone skin, the LED-matrix eyes, the mote light-pipe, the microphone array and its hardware kill-switch, the brain board, the weighted base. No render that smooths over the boring parts. The boring parts are the point.
A promise about trust you can't inspect is just a nicer black box.
What the diagram shows
The single most important drawing on the whole site is the kill-switch, drawn as a real circuit. It's not a stylised icon of a padlock. It's the actual signal path, in three stages you can trace with a finger:
- STAGE 01 · eyelid shutter — a real, physical motion of the lid
- STAGE 02 · physical switch — the shutter throws it; the circuit opens
- STAGE 03 · mic VDD rail — the switch cuts power; the mics go to zero volts
Read left to right and the claim is unavoidable: when boop's eyes are shut, the microphones have no power. Not a software mute that a bug or an update could quietly undo. A wire. There's no path in the firmware that re-energises the mics while the shutter is closed, because firmware isn't what's holding them off. The absence of power is. We drew it exactly so an engineer can't find the trick — because there isn't one.

Words are cheap; a file is a commitment. So the wiring diagram on /inside isn't a
flattened marketing image. It's a real SVG you can download and open. Zoom it as far as you like. The
leader-lines hold. The labels are set in DM Mono so they stay legible at any size, from a
phone thumbnail to a printed A2 poster on an engineer's wall.
We built it to work at two reading levels at once. An electronics person can look at the shutter → switch → rail path and confirm we're telling the truth about where the switch sits. And a fourth grader can follow the same three boxes and understand the one thing that matters: close the eyes, the ears turn off, and it's the metal doing it, not a promise.
That's the whole reason it's on the website and not in a drawer. A datasheet is something you're asked to trust exists. A diagram you can download, screenshot, and hand to your most sceptical friend is something you can check. We'd rather be checked than believed. Put the wire where everyone can see it, and the trust takes care of itself.
